The Lion Dance tradition dates back thousands of years. There are many stories and legends surrounding this dance. Briefly, according to one story a Chinese Emperor had a dream in which he was attacked by a mythical creature and was saved by a lion. The Emperor related this dream to an advisor and from that sprung the lion dance. The lion dancers are accompanied by symbols and a drum to dance to scare the mythical creature and other bad spirits and to bring good luck.
