A NOTE TO NEW AND PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS

Classes last for 2 hours, but don't worry that you cannot exercise for 2 hours as we allow for people to do what they are able to do. Your physical condition or ability will not hold you back unless a doctor has prohibited you from exercise (make sure with your doctor that you can participate in this physical activity). It is our desire to build your health along with your self defense skills. If a student needs rest, a drink of water, etc. they are allowed the needed break. Students may start gradually, as you become accustomed to the activity techniques can become more strenuous, but only as your physical conditioning improves. Each student learns at their own pace and according to their individual abilities and needs.

During our 2 hour class, as a group, the basics are gone over in detail so as to improve the student's technique and understanding. Exercises to build strength and flexibility, punching kicking, and falling and rolling techniques at the appropriate time and level (all within your physical ability). Stretching is also covered along with drills to build the students reflexes and combat skills (which are also fun). In each class personal attention is given and time is spent with each student in a one on one basis to assist students with corrections on skills learned and to instruct them in new skills.

Once a student is proficient with the basics and/or their current skills they may advance to new techniques and skills to master. All along the way you will be guided step by step and each movement and technique will be explained and demonstrated so you will understand how to use what you learn. There is a strong emphasis on form as well as understanding of the techniques and fighting applications within the forms. Students are expected to know how to apply their forms and do applications well, which is why instruction delves deeply into application. Students are given the opportunity to apply these techniques, with safety in mind, so they leave with knowledge of what the movement is for and a hands on understanding and feel for applying the techniques.

Books and videos are also available to new and old students to assist them in their training and basics. All instruction is done under the direct supervision of certified and approved instructors.

Whether young or old, male or female, anyone can practice this and benefit from it on all levels, self-defense, concentration and health.

ABOUT OUR SYSTEM OF KUNG-FU

This is a complete system of self-defense, allowing one to defend him or herself in any situation. These techniques can be used in a variety of situations and from any position or direction, standing, sitting, or lying down. Kung-Fu has been referred to as the art of moving 1000 pounds with 1 ounce, therefore these techniques can be used by anyone in that they do not require a great deal of strength to work. The student learns to focus their strengths against the opponent's weaknesses.

The techniques within the forms are all taught so that it is clearly understood what the movements are for and how they would be applied in combat. Training is designed to let the movements and techniques become a natural part and extension of the student so what is learned will flow from them rather than something that is forced or contrived. The goal is for it to become a reflexive, natural response and instinct. So students are taught to understand movement and how it can be applied t combat as well as uniform theories of movement.

Our system also contains restraint techniques which come from what we refer to as Chin Na and Dog Boxing as well as a multitude of striking techniques using the hands, feet and other parts of the body, so there is something in this system for everyone and for every situation.

CURRICULUM

To cover our curriculum briefly, our classes begin with warm ups, stretching and conditioning exercises. From there we work on striking techniques with hands and feet, blocking techniques, footwork and more. Then, various fighting drills and covered and practiced. At different times the students can also work on throws, joint locks, and more. The student also studies fighting forms and Chinese weaponry, learning how to apply the techniques within the forms and weapons and learns how to improvise the weapons he has studied from commonly available objects. This way you develop a deep understanding of your techniques, movements, fighting theory and application thereby giving you a solid foundation for self-defense.

WEAPONRY

Our curriculum includes an array of Chinese weaponry that includes Staff, Batons, Butterfly Swords, Spear, Broadsword (Darn Dao), Kwan Dao, Monks Spade, Tiger Fork, Three Sectional Staff, Chain Whip, Daggers and many more. As a member, you will learn a new weapon in each level of your training. As you learn weapons you will also be taught how to look beyond that weapon and see how it can be improvised from common objects around you.

FIGHTING FORMS

Self-defense is an integral part of our curriculum. So, far from being just attractive to observe and fun to perform, our fighting forms (sequences of movements within our system) all contain self-defense techniques and combat skills. From the forms, you will learn practical and effective self-defense skills employing kicks, hand techniques, blocks, joint locks, takedowns, close quarter combat and more. The forms, then, are like a "toolbox of techniques" or "catalog of fighting movements and methods" from which you can derive and learn combat skills. Theory and fighting applications are explained in detail as you learn forms and techniques, the better you understand the forms and the common theme that links them the more adapt you will become at your combat skills. The fighting forms and weapons training will increase your coordination, stamina, and body strength and can also provide you with a cardiovascular workout.
